Helen MacLeod & Emma Wilkins

Education Work

Education and music therapy play a very important role to HOOT and since November 2007, Emma and Helen have been part of the Live Music Now scheme, a project set up by Yehudi Menuhin to bring the joy and inspiration of live music to those who have limited access.

Through their involvement with Live Music Now they have toured the UK giving workshops to children of all ages and abilities. Their recent experiences include an educational tour of the Scottish Highlands and a project with the Royal Blind School based around the music of Edward McGuire.

HOOT offer exciting and dynamic workshops from ages 2-18, for both mainstream and ASN schools. Many types of workshops are offered, ranging from interactive and creative music making to concerts that cover SQA Music concepts and learning outcomes set out in the Curriculum for Excellence.

In July 2009 HOOT toured Yorkshire with their fun-filled and exciting take on “Musical Storytime” based around  David Melling’s The Kiss that Missed. Children from ages 2 -12 helped Emma and Helen battle the scary beasts, out-run the fiery dragon and retrieve that KISS, using the power of their voices, musical games and homemade percussion. So……“FOLLOW THAT KISS!”

“we thought this was fabulous, the children were totally inspired!”  – Crathie Primary School Aberdeenshire.

“our children really enjoyed the experience…..the children were enchanted by the performance” – Fairview School, Perth
